Celebrate Recovery Offers Help for the Hurting

“I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate, I do.” Romans 7:15

The desire to live in accordance with God’s Word is sometimes blunted or misdirected. We face temptations. We face disappointments, disaster and heartache. The world can be a shining jewel of excitement and wonder. It holds the promise of approval by, and the admiration of those who are important in our lives. Springfield Assembly’s Celebrate Recovery helps to show God’s way through the heartache.

Ministry Leader, Pastor Rick Serbin, points out, “The ministry of Celebrate Recovery grew out of the recognition that none of us gets through life without experiencing disappointments and hurts. If these wounds remain unhealed by God’s grace, not only do they continue to cause us pain, but we also tend to develop dysfunctional habits and patterns as a means of trying to cope. But, as we like to say, while pain is inevitable, we have discovered that misery is optional.”

Celebrate Recovery is a 12-step, Christ Centered recovery program, including eight principles from the Beatitudes. Pastor Rick, who is also on staff at Emerge Counseling Services as a psychologist, adds, “Celebrate Recovery welcomes people with hurts, hang-ups and habits. It allows us to discover our personal, loving and forgiving higher power—Jesus Christ.”

A Celebrate Recovery group meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at Springfield Assembly of God church’s lower level. The program has been part of the church for 10 years. You’ll find coffee and socializing, songs, prayers, announcements, recognition of anniversaries in recovery, speakers, meals and goodies, along with life changing small groups for discussion and a closing prayer.  Details of the program are found at springfieldassembly.net/celebrate-recovery/.

Pastor Rick offers this invitation, “If you are discouraged and tired of trying to do things in your way and you are willing to try it God’s way one day at a time, we say welcome to an amazing spiritual adventure!”
